Learning to Surrender: How Letting Go of Control Opened Me Up to More

I just did a beautiful Pisces season meditation, and it’s funny because I’ve completely felt this energy lately.

Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, is all about surrender, intuition, and trusting the flow of life. It asks us to soften, release control, and allow things to unfold as they’re meant to. And the most surprising thing? For the first time in my life—I’m actually doing it.

When You Let Go, Opportunities Flow

Even on Monday, as I was sitting down to start writing this blog post, I got a message from my sister—my condo in Mexico had a last-minute booking for ten nights! I’m currently staying there, and it was actually supposed to be blacked out on the site, but it was a nice little payout, so I just went with it. Instead of stressing or resisting, I flowed with it. I quickly cleaned, packed up my things, and moved to my sister’s place while someone else rents mine. And honestly? It felt amazing. I now get to spend ten days with my family and make a little extra!

A few months ago, something like this would have completely thrown me off. Having to change my plans so suddenly would have left me feeling ungrounded and unsettled. But instead of seeing it as an inconvenience, I saw it as an opportunity. That shift in perception has been one of the biggest lessons for me lately—realizing that life is always presenting us with unexpected gifts, but we can only receive them when we’re open to letting go of control.

From Control to Trust

For most of my life, I was the opposite of go-with-the-flow. My Capricorn sun, Taurus moon, and Virgo north node practically demand structure, planning, and control. I thrive on order, organization, and knowing what’s next. Everything I did was carefully thought out. If I was going away for the night, I had a list of everything I needed—down to my toothbrush. If I was running errands, I had my route planned in advance. My daily life revolved around my to-do lists, and if something threw off my schedule, I’d feel frustrated, anxious—like I was losing control. It really sent me spinning.

But since the beginning of the year, something has shifted. I’ve found myself leaning into trust—trusting the universe, trusting the process, trusting that things will unfold as they’re meant to, even if they don’t follow my plan. And I have to say—it is so freeing.

This shift has led me to opportunities I never could have imagined. It has connected me more deeply to my intuition and expanded the ways in which I receive. Most importantly, it has freed me from the illusion that control equals security. Because the truth is, when we try to control everything, we only allow in what we think is possible. But the universe always has something bigger in store.

The Magic of Pisces Season

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I’m fully embracing this now, as we enter Pisces season. Pisces, the sign of the fish, reminds us that life isn’t meant to be micromanaged. It’s meant to be felt. It’s meant to be experienced in a way that allows for expansion, creativity, and divine timing. This season is teaching me that while structure has its place, there’s something truly magical about releasing control. There’s something deeply freeing about allowing life to unfold in ways I never could have planned.

The Balance Between Structure and Flow

Now, don’t get me wrong—I still love my lists! I don’t think I’ll ever be able to grocery shop without one. I still believe in planning, and I still feel a sense of accomplishment when I check things off my to-do list. But I no longer stress if something throws me off schedule. If plans shift, if something unexpected comes up, I don’t spiral. I trust that if something doesn’t happen today, it will happen when it’s meant to.

Before, when things didn’t go according to plan, I felt like I was losing control. Now, I see it differently. It’s not about losing control—it’s about opening up.

Expanding Beyond Limits

As a coach, I recently worked on setting my 2025 goals, and while goal-setting is important, I’ve realized that sometimes we actually limit ourselves with our own goals. We see our goals through the lens of our own experiences, which means we’re naturally limited by what we know. But the greatest potential exists in the unknown.

The most incredible opportunities often arise from things we’ve never experienced before. But we can only receive them when we’re willing to loosen our grip and let go of control. When we try to plan every detail, we leave no room for magic. But when we surrender, we allow ourselves to be guided in ways that we never could have imagined.

It’s like meditation. I used to get frustrated with myself if I got distracted, struggling to stay in the moment. But I’ve learned to give myself grace—to trust the energy. Sometimes, my mind needs to stop and journal because I receive so many creative insights during meditation. Instead of resisting it, I allow it. And that, I’ve realized, is the key to everything—allowing.

Pisces season is teaching me to release control and allow in the magic of the unknown. In allowing, we expand beyond our limits. We step into new experiences.

We open ourselves to opportunities greater than we ever could have imagined.

I invite you to reflect on this:

Where in your life can you loosen your grip?

How can you allow yourself to flow instead of force?

Sending you so much love and light as you flow into Pisces season,

Natalie
